Getting flat felled seams as neat as ready to wear jeans

My flat felled seams always end up slightly wobbly compared to the razor-straight lines I see on ready-to-wear jeans, even when I use a specialty flat fell foot and go slowly. I'm sewing on medium weight denim with topstitching thread in the needle only. Is the wobble mostly a practice issue that improves with more reps, or is there a specific technique for trimming and pressing the seam allowance before folding that would make a bigger difference?
