Best method for inserting an invisible zipper without puckering

Every invisible zipper I install ends up slightly puckered right where the zipper stops, no matter how carefully I press the coils open first. I'm using an actual invisible zipper foot, not improvising with a regular one. I understand the theory of sewing as close to the coil as possible, but something in my execution is off. Do you baste the zipper in place first, or go straight in with the foot? Any tricks for that last inch near the bottom stop specifically?
