Working with slippery rib knit without it stretching out of shape

Rib knit keeps stretching out of shape on me the moment it goes anywhere near my machine, ending up wavy along cut edges even before I've sewn a single seam. I've tried cutting with a rotary cutter on a flat surface rather than shears, which helped a little, but it still shifts under the presser foot. Does anyone stabilize rib knit before sewing, or is this purely a matter of handling technique and slowing down significantly?
