Hand-picked zippers, is the extra time actually worth it

I tried a hand-picked zipper for the first time on a wool skirt this week instead of my usual machine-stitched centered zipper, and it took roughly four times as long for a result that looks maybe fifteen percent better in person. I understand the appeal for couture-level work but I'm questioning whether it's worth the time investment for everyday garments. For those who do this regularly, what makes it worth it to you beyond the aesthetic difference?
