Darning a hole in raw denim without it looking like a patch job

Trying to darn a small hole that's worn through at the inner thigh of a pair of raw denim jeans I've had for years and don't want to replace. Most darning tutorials I find are for knit sweaters rather than woven denim, and I'm worried a simple woven darn will feel stiff and bulky against the surrounding fabric. Has anyone darned denim specifically and found a method that blends in reasonably well rather than reading as an obvious patch?
