Skipped stitches on knit fabric happen when the needle pushes fabric down into the plate hole instead of piercing it, usually from a sharp needle or overly stretched fabric. Switch to a ballpoint needle and support the fabric.

Too much foot pressure flattens pile and stretches knits; too little lets fabric wander or fail to feed. Adjust the pressure dial to suit the fabric weight, lowering it for delicate or bulky fabrics.

When top and bottom seam layers creep apart, unequal feed pressure or a fabric mismatch is usually to blame. Use a walking foot, hand-baste slippery layers together, or ease the top layer as you sew.
