Cut-and-spread grading
A manual grading method in which a pattern is sliced along designated lines and spread apart or overlapped by fixed increments to create a larger or smaller size.
Finished garment measurements
The actual dimensions of a completed garment as it lies flat, distinct from the body measurements it is intended to fit, showing the ease built into the design.
Negative ease
A finished garment measurement smaller than the body measurement it covers, relying on stretch fabric to fit snugly, as commonly used for knitwear and activewear.
Nested pattern
A multi-size pattern printed with the cutting lines for every included size layered on top of one another on a single pattern piece.
